THC and CBD edibles are not the same as THC or CBD. Edibles are just food like you would cook or buy from the store. The difference, in this case, is that they have either been treated or infused with THC or CBD. So, what are the advantages of THC and CBD edibles:
THC edibles are known to boost appetite and, as a result, may be helpful to a person who has appetite problems. On the other hand, CBD has been found to suppress appetite. If you are a person who suffers from overeating, you can use CBD edibles to control your eating and consequently your weight.
As studies have come to show, the reaction of different people to cannabis differs. While some people may find it attractive to others, it is awful. Most importantly, even cannabis extracts such as CBD oil are very bitter. A teaspoon of cannabis oil may completely ruin the taste of your meal. In this light, having well-prepared edibles provides the best way to consume CBD and THC.
THC and CBD edible present a legal way of consuming cannabis products in most jurisdictions. Even in states where recreational cannabis has been outlawed, you still have a room of enjoying your cannabis as a food additive.
THC and CBD edibles are very helpful to individuals suffering from sweet tooth syndrome. There are many people who cannot go a minute without adding a sweet or gummy bear to their mouth. Having gummies that are enriched with CBD or THC helps counter some of the effects of the sugar. For instance, we have observed that CBD can help prevent type 1 diabetes. Using CBD in preparing your sweet foods helps reduce the risk.
Common Ingredients for Edibles
Coconut Infused Oil
We will need coconut oil one way or another. In cases where we will be using coconut oil infused with CBD or THC, we may not need CBD oil. However, in cases where we will be using CBD oil, we will also need coconut oil. One of the important ingredients throughout the process of making CBD and THC edibles is coconut oil.
We most definitely will be using CBD oil for specific recipes. CBD oil can be extracted from hemp or marijuana. The source of the oil and the refinery process determine the concentrations of CBD and THC.
We can buy the CBD oil from stores.
Equipment for Making Edibles
Most of the equipment used in preparing edibles are available at home. If you ever cook, you must have everything you will need except for a few. I just want to mention some of the essentials and some equipment that you must buy. Here is some of the equipment you may want to buy.
Cannabis is fat-soluble; in other words, you can extract THC and CBD by using a fat-based product. In my case, I prefer using butter because it is easily available and cheap. If you are a person who enjoys cooking cannabis recipes, you must always have cannabutter in your home.
With that said, you may not have a cannabutter machine to do the work. There are several provisions that can work for you. You can still use that regular rice cooking pot or pan in your kitchen, to do the same work. The only problem with crock pots and pans is that they require more effort from your side.
The cannabutter making machine is a piece of important equipment for every person who wishes to prepare their oil at home. If you want to make CBD or THC edible starting with marijuana itself, you have to make sure there is a cannabutter maker in your home. If you are a beginner, I will recommend that you only rely on store-bought CBD oils in the preparations. After you are done with several initial recipes, you can try preparing cannabutter at home.
No matter what we will be making, you will need a cooking pot at some point. If you do not need it for preparing the edibles, you might need it to prepare the meals to serve along.
Thankfully, everybody has a saucepan at home. I will recommend that you find one that is non-reactive. The best cooking pots are made of stainless steel. These do not easily react with ingredients.
Further, you must ensure that it has a lid. Avoid purchasing a cooking pot that has rivets within. Rivets make it complex to sanitize your pot. When preparing your CBD edibles, you must work within a clean environment to avoid a case where foreign biota affects the entire process.
We will be dealing with cannabutter and coconut oil in most cases. Having cheesecloth will help us in any process that might need straining fluids out.
You will need a cooking stick to stir through the mixture. I prefer wooden sticks because they are non-reactive. However, you can also use one made from stainless steel.
You can use your oven or a cooking stove as long as you regulate the amounts of heat getting through to your cooking pot.
Pestle and Mortar
In the process of preparing CBD and THC edibles, it is inevitable to make some mixtures. There are many situations when you will be required to grind or pound some substances.
General Bakery Equipment
We will also be making some baked goods that are commonly baked at home. I will not be specific to the type of bakery equipment you need. In most cases, we have the necessary bakery tools at home already. You can check your kitchen to see whether you have all the tools needed to make cookies, cakes and other baked goods. Although we will not be focusing only on baking, some recipes may include baking.
The need for a freezer or a refrigerator does not need mentioning. It is almost imperative to have a fridge when you are preparing most foods. Secondly, when dealing with CBD and THC products, you will need to refrigerate most of the ingredients for a longer lifespan.
A fridge is specifically important if you will be infusing your oil personally. The infusion process requires refrigeration for at least 24 hours. If you want to be successful in making your CBD infused coconut oil, you will need a fridge running around the clock.
I will recommend a set of teaspoons and tablespoons each. This will help you get the measurements right. You will need a set just in case of emergencies. If a spoon gets dirty during the process, you do not want to use it again.
Lemon Raspberry CBD Donuts Recipe
- 2 cups of all-purpose baking flour
- 1/4 cup of corn starch
- 4/4 cup of table sugar
- 2.5 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of table salt
- 1 cup of buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 2 ml of CBD oil store-bought
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice- freshly squeezed
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract- sometimes I use up to 1 spoon depending on the desired intensity.
- 2 teaspoons of grated lemon zest
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup off raspberries.
- Start by heating your oven to about 425°F.
- Spray doughnut mold tray with oil on the inside and outside
- In a bowl, whisk your baking flour together with cornstarch, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Add in and stir the CBD oil, buttermilk, and eggs. Stir for about 1 minute before adding lemon juice, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Continue to stir until uniformly mixed.
- Divide the batter evenly among the mold by spooning out or by placing it in a zipper seal bag and squeezing the batter into the molds.
- Bake in your oven for about 7- 9 minutes or until the edges start turning brown. Remove from the mold after cooling for about an hour.
- In a blender, blend the raspberries and pass the puree through a sieve to separate it from seeds.
- Mix your powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of raspberry puree until you feel it is smooth.
- Dip all your doughnuts into the raspberry icing and allow them to set. Garnish in your desired style and enjoy it.
For this recipe, we are using pure CBD oil extracted from hemp. The ingredients above should provide about 12 doughnuts. If you are using CBD oil bought from an online store, try calculating the milligrams of CBD in your doughnuts. Most CBD bottles have an indication of the amount of CBD per drop. For 2 tablespoons of CBD, it is estimated to be around 10 drops of CBD.
You can eat your doughnuts at any time as snacks, or you can serve them as a dessert. In either way, these doughnuts offer all the health benefits of CBD without the associated side effects.
